We are talking about two artists, well-known to Polish shantyfans - Pat Sheridan and Jim Mageean, who have sung together at festivals in Europe for several years. Pat and Jim's repertoire is extremely rich. You can find there, shanties, sea songs, work songs, drinking songs and other folk songs from their respective countries. Both have collected shanties and folk songs for over fifty years.
The Shantymen, supported by Marek Szurawski (picture by Dziadek Vladek above), the leader of the first Polish shanty group Stare Dzwony, performed at the 'Dookoła Wody Festival' in Sandomierz and the next day in Polanczyk at 'Cypel Festival'. Marek Szurawski joked when he introduced them at the 'Cypel Festival' that their singing co-operation was their contribution to the Anglo-Irish Agreement.
On their last ill fated trip together in 2009 Pat and Jim sang with their good friend and colleague Johnny Collins, who unfortunatly passed away following their final concert in the 'Zejmans Club' in Gdansk. Before this, Jim and Johnny sang twice in Poland, at "Shanties Festival" (2004) in Krakow and at "Szanta na sukces" in Nowa Slupia (2007).
Pat is a frequent guest in Poland where he loves to visit and sing with his many friends. He has cooperated with Brasy, a young Polish group from Bytom, since 2008, producing the maritime album Rolling Home. He also sung with Marek Szurawski (and Marek Wiklinski from Sasiedzi) in the past (at Polanczyk in 2009). He recently appeared, also with Szurawski, and young Chris Rickets from England (see pictures below) at the Festival 'Shanties' in Kraków in February 2012.

"Muzycznie tegoroczny festiwal zdumiał mnie i zaskoczył. W tym sensie, że nie spodziewałem się tak wysokiego poziomu konkursu. Tzn. może spodziewałem się, ale nie aż tak! Każdy z konkursowiczów (z dwoma wyjątkami) stanowił klasę sam dla siebie. Każdy prezentował inny muzyczny zakątek, a wszyscy śpiewali o żaglach, marzeniach, słońcu, wolności. To było piękne i imponujące.
Grupa Trzymająca Ster z Poznania ujęła mnie stylistyką teatralną swojej propozycji, starannym wykonaniem programu. Żałuję, że nie zdobyli nagrody.
Bra-De-Li Juniors ujęli mnie wdziękiem i bezpretensjonalnością wokalistek.
Wikingowie reprezentowali nurt tradycyjnych pieśni morza - zrobili to znakomicie. Niestety, w puli znajdowało się za mało nagród - a z pewnością Wikingowie na nagrodę zasłużyli.
Za Burtą z Lublina (III miejsce) opanowali scenę dobrze wykonanym folkiem z porywającą konferansjerką i energią na scenie. A wszystko na przyzwoitym poziomie muzycznym.
Piotr Sierzputowski solo i z Białym Patykiem (Ostrołęka) - nagrodzeni za piosenkę premierową i II nagrodą Jury zaprezentowali żywiołowy, pomysłowy folk-rock na bardzo dobrym poziomie ze znakomitymi tekstami DZIADKA Piotrka i Jaśka - Alfreda Sierzputowskiego. Gratulacje!!!
Anker z Górowa Iławeckiego, zdobywcy Grand Prix, zdobyli Jury (i mnie) nowatorskim podejściem do muzyki, dobrymi własnymi tekstami, wielogłosowym śpiewem na dobrym poziomie, instrumentarium (lira korbowa!!!). Inspiracje Ankera są wyraźne (kto chce - niech szuka w necie), ale to, co proponują naprawdę potrafi zachwycić. I zachwyciło! :-)"
